Actuarial benchmarking of inpatient admissions within England using international comparators

This white paper discusses a comparison of inpatient surgical and medical admissions of the National Health Service with Milliman’s international, evidence-based, real-world benchmarks. The paper discusses how the benchmarks allow for quantification of potentially avoidable admissions within a healthcare system to identify potential value opportunities. An overview of Milliman’s international best practice benchmarks is first discussed. Data of surgical and medical inpatient admissions is included, as well as maps and discussion of avoidable admissions by clinical commissioning groups in England and London.
